1) Verify Taste Complaint
Compare taste of refrigerator water/ice vs. tap water.
Note: Water may not taste “bad,” only different due to new LG filter vs. old filter.
2) Proper Water filter installation
✅ Is the filter installed correctly? Here is the proper procedure:
- Locate and open the filter compartment.
- Remove the old filter by turning it counter-clockwise and pulling it out.
- Then remove the cap from the new filter. Insert the new filter into the housing, turn it clockwise to lock it.
- Will need to turn up to 180 degrees.
- WF will not click when complete, but will stop turning. Apply light pressure, but enough to make sure it will not turn anymore. Very important as a improperly installed WF can cause a bad taste in water.
- Close the compartment, turn the water back on, and flush the filter by dispensing approximately 2.5 gallons of water.
- Reset the filter indicator light by pressing and holding the designated button for three seconds.

3) Water vs Ice Taste
If water tastes fine but ice does not → Caused by minerals/softeners in frozen state, not by refrigerator.
Minerals or water softeners do not have taste in a liquid state, but when frozen the chemical properties of the minerals or water softeners change. This is why ice can taste different than the water. This is not the result of the unit, but the minerals in the water or softeners added to the water.
4) Odor Check
Clean freezer & fresh food compartments.
Seal all food containers.
Place sealed baking soda boxes in both compartments.
Do not use open containers of baking soda (may circulate when the fans run).
- Check the refrigerator’s air filter. It should be replaced every six months.

5) Water Line Replaced Recently?
Recently replaced lines may add odors/taste.
Flush 2 gallons → retest.
If persists:
Disconnect refrigerator water supply.
Turn water ON, taste directly from line.
If bad → source is water supply.
If good → reconnect refrigerator.
6) Filter Replacement
Replace LG brand water filter every 6 months (or sooner if needed).
Do not use Non-LG genuine or expired filters.
Warranty does not cover issues from Non-LG Genuine water filters.
